Here at Burrowes, we have implemented a new program for recognising positive behaviours in our school. This program recognises behaviour outside the classroom such as playing safely, keeping the school clean or treating others nicely. Gotcha awards will be given out by staff members as they move around the school catching students demonstrating one of our four schools rules:
I am a Learner
I am Safe
I am Responsible
I am Respectful
Or one of our five You Can Do It! keys:
Students are able to take home their Gotcha awards to show parents and caregivers.
Each class receives stamps for the Gotcha awards it receives which go on a class chart. Classes work towards a chosen reward for the end of term and also receive certificates when they reach certain points along the way.
Each week on assembly a student who has received a Gotcha award will have a chance to have their name drawn out of a box. At the end of term a special parade will be held to celebrate our Gotcha program.
The drive for this program has come from a belief that the quickest way to change student behaviour is to point out what students are doing right! We want to focus on the positive behaviours we see every day from so many of our students and encourage and reteach these positive behaviour skills to any student requiring it.
